Versace for H&M: The Aftermath
Versace for H&M: The Aftermath
Nov 21, 2011
By Ed Kavishe
After months of anticipation and waiting the Versace for H&M collection was released in North America on Saturday November19th, within a matter of hours the collection was flying off the shelves in h&m stores around the country....the largest consumer of it all the eBay reseller. When Donatella Versace decided to do this collaboration i don't believe her intentions were to make something that was gonna profit other sellers, designer collaborations are intended for the designer to introduce their product to a new group of customers who generally aren't their regular shoppers, but with the recent trends of collections released at H&M and Target we are seeing a more and more growth of customers buying with intentions to re-sell at a higher price, so how successful are these collaborations as measured to what the intention is? An observation from one of the H&M store: Many shoppers seemed more intent on reselling their purchases than wearing them. Ann-Marie Smith, who came with three friends, spent $3,256.32 on dresses, tops, scarves, leggings and jackets, and expects "most of it is going on eBay.
But for now we can at least say Versace for H&M is now over...thank God

CFDA Offers Proposal for Show Date Crisis
CFDA Offers Proposal for Show Date Crisis
Nov 17, 2011
The Council of Fashion Designers of America has a plan to solve the show date crisis. According to sources, the organization recently contacted Mario Boselli, president of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, with a proposal that would include moving its dates for the September 2012 shows back by a week to avoid clashing with Milan-but as part of the gesture and for New York and London to commit to it, Milan and Paris are being asked to agree to the second-Thursday rule for the long term.
Should Milan accept the plan, the September 2012 shows in New York would run from Sept. 6 to 13, and London from Sept. 14 to 18, but from 2013 onwards, the show seasons would always kick off on the second Thursday of February and September. |

The classic items every man should own for autumn/winter
The classic items every man should own for autumn/winter
Aug 30, 2011
Brown Lace Ups
Dark brown lace-ups represent a tiny step beyond strict sartorial guidelines-pedants still insist on the old adage "no brown in town" -and it's undoubtedly easier to wear black shoes with a suit. However, although brown calls for a degree of judgment, by keeping the shade dark (no lighter than chestnut for business) they'll work particularly well with blue suits.
Brown loafers
Brown shoes are more versatile and interesting than black shoes, and the darker the shade the more formal they are. Leather-soled brown loafers go with everything except dark suits and dinner jackets and are formal enough for most occasions.
Weekend Bag
Carrying just the right bag is a matter of near obsession for regular travellers, who know that it's only possible if you own a range of different luggage. Weekend bags are bound to make an impression so make sure it's the right one, either in soft brown leather or more utilitarian heavy canvas.
Belts
Unless you uses braces to support your trousers, a man needs a brown leather belt and a black one (so that his belt can always match his shoes) as well as a woven one (probably in brown leather or suede) for the weekend.

01.
Grey Suit
Of course, anyone who wears a suit regularly will also need a grey suit- pale grey is a stylish choice. In winter it's nice to display a little texture, so look out for fabrics such as sharkskin and flannel. Although the dominant cut remains lean, do remember that it's better to prioritise flattering over trendy.
02.
Dark Overcoat
Even in these overheated times, every man needs a coat to wear over a suit. The most versatile choice is a slim-fitting, single-breasted wool or cashmere overcoat. Most coats are now cut to hit the knee, or even finish on the thigh.
03
Blue Suit
If you only own one suit, make it a blue suit. And if you only own five suits make at least two of them blue. They work with white, pink and pale blue shirts, as well as with burgundy, navy, black, brown and yellow ties. And they speak of sobriety, trustworthiness and reliability, which is why politicians favour them
04.
Chambray Weekend Shirts
The inherent informality (they were originally designed to be worn by polo players) of the button-down shirt makes them the default setting for the weekend, although it should still fit just as well as your business shirts. However, the more interesting choices this autumn include plaid shirts, and workwear-inspired denim or chambray versions.

Fashion Show Confidential
Fashion Show Confidential by Ed Kavishe

I can't speak for anybody else, but if you're me, here's what you do during the shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris....
Throw on your best fashion photographer outfit, whatever that is, sometimes might be sort of quirky sartorial pastiche. Hope you like double-cheek kissing, because you do it with the same people for a month. When the lights dim, its all flashbulbs, the sound of the shutters that seems like a machine gun is going off and long legs and fantasy-hair and music loud enough to resuscitate best-forgotten clubland memories. In between, there's lots of waiting, but believe me, waiting at Marc Jacobs is no different than waiting at the DMV.
And here's what you do after the shows.....
Process images around 100,000 of them (yes one hundred thousand), put on your Beats by Dr Dre headphones and try to make sense of it all. Delete all unwanted shots make a careful selection between 2 of the same images and decide which one to keep depending on how flat the leg is to the surface and how far out the arm is swung by the model, yes there is a science to it believe it or not. Find a few recurring highlights a perfect example for this upcoming season: spring floral's how original. These looks abduct the cheerful garden clippings of spring and turn them into something deeper more intense.
Recall all the tailor made silhouettes that wandered down the catwalk, yes its all about precision-crafted jackets and sheath dresses, each so artfully constructed as to make you want to find a statuesque pose and hold it for an entire evening...or to race to a nearby store and grab all you can. And purple.....don't forget all the purple Its bright ad imperial-almost psychedelic-in bags and shoes, Its think Cleopatra who dyed all of her ship's sails purple for a date with Marc Antony.
Then after the four weeks of fun and mayhem and long waits, you reward yourself with a chestnut crepe on the streets of Paris (of course don't forget the Peroni) and then you go home and find a life after all its just fashion who really cares how long you have to wait for it.
If you'd like to join me for a more in-depth look at the shows and the decadent chaos of Fashion Week please log on to fashionwirepress.com starting September 7th 2011
Wish me luck.....

Marc Jacobs to Close New York Fashion Week
Marc Jacobs to Close New York Fashion Week
Aug 30, 2011
Marc Jacobs has pushed back his forthcoming fashion show from his usual Monday evening time slot to Thursday, September 15 at 8:30 p.m. Delaying the show "will allow Jacobs and his staff to make up for time lost this past weekend when the entire design and sample room staffs were scheduled to work before Hurricane Irene intervened," reports WWD, who spoke to Robert Duffy today. Meanwhile, the Marc by Marc Jacobs show has been bumped up to Monday. Having Marc show so late on Thursday will undoubtedly complicate the plans of those flying to the U.K. that afternoon for London Fashion Week, which commences Friday the 16th at 9am in the morning, as well as the designers who are scheduled to show then.
The Marc Jacobs impact will surely be felt on Day One of London Fashion Week. Now if only we could get an airline to have a flight from JFK to Heathrow late at night.
