Sonia Rykiel for H&M
Dec 4, 2009
Tuesday night's Paris bash celebrating the new Sonia Rykiel for H&M collection, gave guests the opportunity to buy the pieces right then and there at one of the many carnival-themed booths at the event. Within hours the collection sold out and not everybody was able to purchase what they wanted.
Fortunately the collection goes on sale tomorrow, December 5th, at no less than 83 H&M locations nationwide. Line up now, ladies, all of it will go in a flash.

Winner of the Emerging Designer competition at Portland Fashion Week Paloma Soledad Corsets. Paloma's background as a costume designer for films ranging from Hostel to most recently Coraline might help explain her flair for the dramatic. Her line of exquisitely detailed corsets were highly impressive. Here is a look from her collection, shot by Ed Kavishe at The Nines Hotel in Portland Oregon.

Tom Ford
Opens 2nd US Store in Las Veg
Dec 3, 2009
Tom Ford bets on Vegas for second U.S. menswear shop.
The 7,700-square-foot store, with an angular metallic facade that resembles the exterior of LA's Walt Disney Concert Hall, is located at the new Crystals retail center in the new CityCenter development. The interior resembles that of the New York and Milan locations, with antique bronze and glass display cases, velvet sofas, and luxe touches that include a black marble fireplace, Ultrasuede paneled walls and a beaver rug.
Like the other stores, it will serve up everything Ford envisions the modern man of style could possibly need, with a dedicated shirting room, a sportswear salon, a perfumery (where you can have a custom-blended scent made), and a room dedicated to made-to-measure suits.
Other luxury stores slated to open at the Crystals include Louis Vuitton, Ermenegildo Zegna, Cartier, Kiton, Paul Smith, Versace and Tiffany.

3Q09 US Apparel Sales Report
3Q Sales -2.8%; Expect Moderat
Dec 3, 2009
# Total 3Q09 Apparel Sales -2.8% — The U.S. apparel market shrank -2.8% in 3Q09, an improvement from 1Q’s -10.5% & 2Q’s -4.3%, given easier compares. Average selling price -1.1% while total units sold -1.8% in 3Q09 vs. LY.
# Mass Merchants Gain Share — Mass Merchants (21.8% vs. 20.6% LY) showed the greatest increase in market share, followed by Direct Mail/E-tail Pureplays (5.2% vs. 4.9% LY) & Off-price Retailers (9.8% vs. 9.6% LY). Department stores lost the most share (12.7% vs. 13.7%), followed by National Chains (12.7% vs. 13.5% LY) & Specialty Stores (31.0% vs. 31.5% LY). We believe Mass Merchants (WMT, TGT, Kmart, etc) & Off-pricers benefited from their strong value proposition, while Direct Mail/E-tail Pureplays (Amazon, E-bay, etc.) benefited from consumers’ preference to shop online to more easily find the best deals and lowest prices.
# Overall Full Price Selling Lower — Overall dollar value of apparel sold at full price declined as expected to 43% in 3Q09 vs. 45% LY and full price selling at Specialty Stores declined ~5% to 42% vs. 47% LY. Greater full price selling at Warehouse Clubs (+5.5%) & Children’s Specialty (+3.3%) was more than offset by less full price selling at Men’s Specialty (-14.4%), Lifestyle Specialty (-8.6%) & others.
# Women’s, 55-64 Age Demo, & Denim Better — 3Q09 apparel sales fell in all wearer segments; however, Women’s declined the least at -1.9% vs. Kid’s -3.0% & M’s -4.7%. Apparel sales surprisingly increased among the 55-64 year old demo (9.8% vs. 8.6% LY). Denim rose impressively +3.6% vs. total apparel -2.8%.
# Household Incomes Skew Lower for Off-Price — Off-Price stores had a higher proportion of lower income shoppers than Specialty Stores: 43% of Off-Price (vs. 33% in Specialty, 35% in Factory, & 34% in Department Stores) in $0-$60k range. HHI trends also validated that American Eagle and Banana Republic brands capture higher-end households (AE has 40% & BR has 60% at $75K+); while Aeropostale (47%) & Old Navy (54%) have a strong $0-75k HHI presence.
# Looking Forward — We expect 4Q09 apparel sales to decline (1)-(3)% given worries over record unemployment and increasing gas prices offset by improving consumer sentiment and net worth on higher U.S. equities, stabilizing credit market, deleverage of consumer balance sheet, expectations for smaller Y-O-Y gains in unemployment, and increases in real average weekly earnings. |

Zimmermann's Summer Pop-Up
The store will offer everythin
Nov 28, 2009
On December 1, Australian label Zimmermann opens a pop-up store on Sydney's northern beaches, exclusively dedicated to the brand's swim and resort collections.
Nicky and Simone Zimmermann came up with the concept while working on their swim campaign in Montauk, New York earlier this year. The pair returned to Sydney, determined to uncover a location that embodied the nostalgia and quirkiness of Australian beachside living. The result of their search: a seasonal store located in Whale Beach.
As well as swim and beach wear, the shop will offer everything you need for the perfect day at the beach, says creative director Nicky Zimmermann.
"We'll be stocking other items that we love for summer - some great summer reads, skin products and some one-off accessories," reveals Zimmermann.
The store will be open until January 31, 2009.

Tiger Woods
Seriously hurt in Car Accident
Nov 27, 2009
Tiger Woods was seriously injured early Friday when he hit a fire hydrant and a tree near his Florida home, authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the PGA star hit the fire hydrant and tree as he pulled out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.
Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital. Officials there did not have record of him as a patient, though the news release said Woods' injuries were serious.
The highway patrol said the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

Giorgio Armani Stairs
Nov 26, 2009
5th Avenue
New York City
One of my favourite stores on New York's 5th Avenue is the Giorgio Armani Store, Its a one stop for everything Armani, Armani Exchange, Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani, Armani Dolce, Armani Cosmetics and Armani bags.
My favourite feature about this particular store is the staircase as you can see from the picture above (i have never actually taken the elevator to the top floor for this particular reason). Its the only store in North America that carries the Armani Dolce, a unique collection of sweets, chocolates and marmalade spreads,(i love em all).
Don't forget to check out some of the exclusive collections that are made for this store only.
