Betsey Johnson Fall 2011 Collection
Betsey Johnson Fall 2011 Collection review by Annie Vazquez
Feb 18, 2011
Off-kilter, zany and loud are all synonymous with Betsey Johnson and that's exactly what her Sunday night show was like. Inside the theater tent, legions of Betsey fans head to toe in the label turned up to catch a glimpse of the new collection and to find out what the hyped up second half would be like (hint: it featured real women of all shapes and sizes even a pregnant one).Spotted front row was every gal's favorite: Sex and The City stylist and designer Patricia Field decked out in ripped up leggings and her crimson locks looking as wild as ever. The 6p.m. show kicked off an hour late with deafening music blaring out. Our seats and bodies were literally shaking from the bass. Annie Lenox, Prince, Metric and The Rolling Stones tunes took us through the first half of the show where towering models in black chin length bobs embellished with lace stepped out in typical Johnson wild wear. There were tiger prints galore in shades from deep purple, to neon pink and yellow. The feline motif made it onto everything from stockings, tops, skirts and frocks. Rich velvet coats tinged in mustard, lima green and purple beckoned us to get out of our seats to touch. Of course, her trademark girly florals and big pouffy ruffled skirts that screamed 80s Madonna were there too. The second half of the show was like a breath of fresh air on the catwalk as real women of all body types filed out clad in blonde wigs looking every bit like Ms. Johnson. Cheering, applause, and laughter filled the room and it magnified even more when the leading lady of the night came out dancing and skipping around. We were a bit awe-struck when she pulled Patricia Field from her seat to kiss her on the lips, but then again isn't that why we love the unpredictable designer who reminds us that dressing up should be always fun.
