Karlie Kloss (born August 3, 1992) is an American model and ballet dancer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1994
When Kloss was 13, she was discovered at a charity fashion show in St. Louis. She was encouraged and inspired to model by one of her teachers in Webster Groves Elementary. In 2007, she signed with Elite Model Management before controversially moving to NEXT Model Management in January 2008.
She has been in advertisements for Nina Ricci, ChloƩ, Lacoste, Sportmax, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Gap, Pringle of Scotland, and American Eagle. Kloss is the face of the Marc Jacobs fragrance Lola. She has walked for numerous designers in New York, London, Milan and Paris, including Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Givenchy, Gucci, Valentino and Versace, and appeared in editorials for the American, Italian, French, British and Latin American Vogue magazines. Her covers include Italian Vogue, shared with Rianne ten Haken, Vogue Korea and American Teen Vogue, alongside Chanel Iman and Ali Michael.
At the Jill Stuart Fall 2008 show, model-turned-TV host Tyra Banks was seen mockingly imitating Kloss' swaying motion and "stoned death stare."
Kloss is ranked 7th on the Top 50 Models Women List by models.com, a ranking she shares with Italian model Mariacarla Boscono
